(Editor’s Note: Usually for paid subscribers only, we think this track should be listened to no matter your class, creed, bank account, or speaker quality) There have been almost as many bad remixes of the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. as there have been racists who quote him out of context for their own purposes. This remix is neither.
Clocking in at almost 5min, many of the lesser known passages of the speech glide along. Lubricated by soothing piano riffs, an insistent meter, and wonderful synth additions, the track almost floats along with your thoughts. Instead of signing off while you listen, I’ll just leave you with the bit that usually gets forgotten during his winter holiday:
“This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.
Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.
Now is the time to rise from the dark & desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.”
